The beautiful, snow-capped peak of Mount Kenya is the highest point in Kenya and is ranked the second highest point in Africa at 5199m. It is a challenging and popular destination for trekkers and climbers. The main summit is called Batian and the second summit Nelion (5188m), both of which are technical climbs; but a third peak, Lenana, at 4985m is more accessible and a very feasible goal for fit people.
Day 1: Nairobi – Nanyuki
You will be met by our Travellers Square Tours representative, later depart Nairobi in the morning and drive through the Kikuyu land in central Kenya covering approx 230kms to Nanyuki Town where you will have your lunch, than take a walk to the Equator for acclimatization. Dinner and overnight at a budget hotel.
Day 2: Nanyuki – Old Moses
After breakfast drive to Sirimon gate from where you start your hiking .A 9kms walk for 3hrs through a rain forest with a pick nick lunch en-route will bring you to Old Moses (3300m) arriving around noon. Dinner and overnight at the camp.
Day 3: Old Moses – Shipton
Hike through the moorland where you see a different kind of flora. Walk through Liiki Valley then along Mackinders Valley arriving at Shipton (4200m). late afternoon. Lunch en-route or at the camp. Dinner and overnight at the camp. Approximate walking time 7hrs, 17kms.
Day 4: Shipton – Summit- Old Moses
Wake up early morning at 0300hrs and after warming up with a cup of tea and some snacks start hiking heading to Point Lenana arriving the summit at aproximately 0630hrs. Enjoy the views of the sunrise and take photos, then start your descent down to Shipton camp for breakfast, then further down to Old Moses where you will spend the night. Lunch and dinner at Old Moses.
Day 5: Old Moses – Back to Nairobi
After breakfast descend down for 9 kms to the gate where you get your transport back to Nairobi, making a lunch stop in Nanyuki. End of services.
